I typically don't include the color copper within my designs but not because I don't like it it's mostly because many of the objects I tend to gravitate towards are typically within the silver color scheme.
Today, I happened across several coppery toned objects and I figured it was the universe's way of telling me I needed to feature it on my blog. So here it is ~
{could be a sculpture as is}
As the educational portion of my blog, I thought I'd include the definition according to chemistry.about.com. "A substance with high electrical conductivity, luster, and malleability, which readily loses electrons to form positive ions (cations). Metals are otherwise defined according to their position on the Periodic Table, including groupings as alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, and rare earth metals."
{I'm sure you found that fascinating - but my main reason for using it is for the color}
A great way to display or feature color is to surround it with a neutral palette. Galleries typically display on white or neutral backgrounds in order to eliminate any distractions from the featured artwork. By using this technique colors within the artwork tend to pop and take on a level of importance. Using that same technique I've created a living room concept board featuring copper as the main element.
Copper is a rich earthy color and you can find many furnishings and accessories in different shades of the color. This design features many of those objects intermingled within the room's overall neutral palette. I've added the artwork which ties the color scheme together and with the addition of pillows and other accessories of dark and light copper tones texture and balance is created within the room's design.
After working with this color I feel I have a new appreciation for it. It's versatile because it can be featured within any design style, it can either be elegant or casual depending on your mood, and it blends nicely with a variety of color schemes.
A penny for your thoughts; I think copper may be the new black.
