More Storage

Let's focus on storage today. It's constantly in demand and everyone always wants more! Using furniture as a storage unit is only functional if used properly. The key to having enough storage is to be organized with the space you have. Be diligent about staying up to date with your stored items. Try to go through your storage areas and clean out items that you no longer need or use. If you do this on a regular bases you will always have enough available storage space.
Whatever your style may be there are plenty of options out there to satisfy your taste. My favorite way to add storage to a room is through the use of unique and one of a kind furniture pieces. I've been known to search for months for the right piece to fit a particular style, color, and above all function. I've collected a few furniture options to consider for your next project.

If you are ever lucky enough to find a salvaged library catalog, buy it! You can always find ways to use it later, remember you can never have too much storage. These pieces are wonderful for storing all those little tiny objects that you had no idea you had so many of.

Dressers are one of my favorite pieces of furniture to decorate with, they can be used in just about any room. Dressers come in a variety of styles, colors, and functional options. Because the storage portion is hidden, adding a dresser to a room creates interest without clutter. Use the top to add extra lighting and accessories to your overall design.

Shelves and open cabinets give you storage area plus display options. If you are neat and tidy this is the option for you.  If you are not, I'd stay away unless you want to challenge yourself to stay clutter free.
Shelves do not need to be a focal point in a room. I like to use them on surrounding walls by arranging the main furniture towards the center of the room leaving the wall spaces available for a shelf or open cabinet. To give your open storage display a cohesive look, always group "like" objects together and balance color and texture.
An entry open shelf cabinet can be kept tidy by using baskets and hooks. The baskets keep the little things contained in one place and the hooks display your coats and keep them handy.

In order to make more storage area in your home you need to change the way you think about space. Use every little bit of space you have, consider wall and ceiling areas, furniture options, and closet organizers. Also, make it a priority to take inventory of all your stored items at least once a year and get rid of things you don't use. I promise that if you start to change the way you think about storage and how to use it properly, life will take on a new perspective.
Declutter your life by decluttering your space!
