How to Decorate with Sand

“In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth.” ― Rachel Carson

ahhh, sand ~ reminds me of beach vacations, joyful moments, and how nice it feels between my toes!
(no wonder I love it so much)

Decorating with sand makes me a happy girl.

This is one of my favorite ways to use sand. I love the color and texture it adds to this simple display. Create a larger display by grouping different size vessels together for a striking centerpiece arrangement.

My husband travels a lot for work and for every KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) flight he takes he receives a miniature Delf Blue House. It is a gift tradition given to all of KLM's World Class Business travel customers which began in the 1950's.  They are tiny collectable replicas of traditional Dutch houses. We've collected a few through the years and this is how I display them. BTW, each house is fill with Dutch gin otherwise known as genever. The only way to get to the genever is by melting the wax on the chimney top. As you can see, we've enjoy a few of them.

Sand works great as a support element to any vase or container. I use it to display a few branches in a vintage metal box. Sits beautifully on my kitchen table.

Another idea is to display beach sand souvenirs in small glass bottles or jars. Either mix and match jars or choose similar bottles and display on a shelf. I prefer using similar bottles and writing the name of the beach directly on the glass.

I keep a huge galvanized bucket filled with sand in my workroom this way I always have enough sand handy for any new projects. It makes a cool display and it's functional as well.

Have fun playing in the sand...
